Settling In
Settling in is an interim stage in the transition between home and the outside world. Children’s whole future attitude to new experiences could be affected by how the situation is managed. Due care and attention must be given to each child’s individual needs, allowing them time to settle into any new setting.
Some children will settle in more easily than others, but please do not be concerned as it is important to have patience to allow the child a period of adjustment. If necessary, parents/carers are welcome to stay for a while to help the child settle in.
We will endeavour to make the child’s transition from home to playgroup as easy as possible by holding an Open Day for children to come along with their parents/carers. This gives an opportunity for children to explore the playgroup and all its activities with the security of having a parent/carer present.
We hold our open Day in August, just before the child commences the playgroup setting, as we have experienced that if this is held any earlier e.g. June, children tend to forget this experience and may struggle to settle in.
